Sunday stamps: Chairs

This Sunday's theme of Viridian's Sunday Stamps is 'Anything you wish'.
There are so many themes so I always think it hard to choose one. Fortunately, thanks to Micu from Mail a Smile, I received some interesting stamps from Hungary.
They attracted my attention because of the fact that I hardly see this theme on stamps. Is that weird? Yes, it is, because many of us are spending a lot of time on this object (especially while writing letters and postcards): the chair!

Among Dutch stamps I found the chair you see below, called 'zigzagstoel', 'zigzag chair'. It has been designed in 1932 by Gerrit Rietveld. Rietveld has designed more chairs which were very unusual in his time. Eight years before this 'zigzag chair' he designed the Rietveld-Schröder house, which now is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This stamp is part of a ten stamps sheet, issued in 2012 because of the re-opening, after a long-term renovation, of the Stedelijk Museum ('Municipal Museum') of Modern Art in Amsterdam.

An other chair, in which we fortunately don't sit too often and which we like to avoid as much as possible, is the dentist's chair. Every time I visit the dentist I must think of how Mr. Bean treated the dentist's chair, which alleviates such visits a bit. So does this stamp (I love comics on stamps).
This stamp has been issued in 1984 as part of a 'children's welfare stamps' sheet. The design is by Dutch illustrator Joost Swarte.

And there are some more chairs to been seen on the terrace, in this famous painting by Vincent van Gogh:

  2. An unusual theme, but you have done well with so many stamps!
(I'm thinking you must be very organized to be able to find them in your collection, too!)

    1. Thank you!
Organized... Alas no, in contrary!.. If ever you would visit me you immediately think it a chaos inhere :-)

But I finally invented a 'system' to retrieve stamps easier. The first months after discovering Sunday Stamps, I searched for suitable foreign stamps in my postcrossing- and mail art archives: again and again. And again, and all-over again. Every time I was searching a lot. But suddenly I choose to pick up possibly interesting themed stamps and scan them immediately, give a proper name to the thus created jpg-files, and save these files in one folder on my pc. By searching in this computer folder I can find them back rather easy.
The Dutch stamps I'm keeping in a stamp book, without a proper order, so I have to turn the pages again and again to find the stamps I had in mind for the theme (as I do when searching an apt stamp for my outgoing mail) :-) (But still that system also is better than before: I used to keep all stamps in one big envelope, very time consuming to retrieve the wished stamp :-)

    2. Oh yes, I used to (and to some extent, still do) spend an awful lot of time searching again and again through my box of Postcrossing cards for suitable stamps! Like you I've started to scan the stamps and create a special folder for them in iphoto. It is rather time-consuming, but interesting.

  3. I would never have thought of chairs as a theme (and would probably have never found any stamps to fit it), you have a great selection.

    2. I also thought of chairs because of Micu's letters, so some chairs will be the same:)

  5. You have a great series of stamps there! I don't think I'd like to sit on the zigzag chair, no matter how beautifully designed.
